Växjö beat Rögle 2-1 in the first of seven finals of the Swedish SHL.
Halfways through the third period Pontus Holmberg put a nice backhander in the roof of the net behind the Rögle keeper Christoffer Rifalk to win the first game of the SHL finals för Växjö Lakers at home in Vida Arena.
Växjö had taken the lead in the first period on a goal by Richard Gynge and Rögle tied it with a minute to go of the second period when German talent Moritz Seider beat Erik Källgren who guards the Växjö net after Viktor Fasth was injured in the semi finals against Örebro.
Rögle of Ängelholm are in the finals for the first time. Växjö won the championship in 2015 and 2018. Next game will be played on Monday in Växjö.
