In connection with the strengthening of quarantine measures in Europe, the IIHF, jointly with the Danish authorities, decided to postpone the Continental Cup Superfinals from January to March.
"Following the recently-announced lockdown in Denmark and the decision that no spectators are allowed within Danish sport facilities, the IIHF evaluated and discussed the Omicron variant development within Europe and its impact on the upcoming Continental Cup Final in Aalborg, Denmark." with this short announcement, IIHF confirmed the postponing of Continental Cup Superfinals from January to a later date in March, possibly from 04 to 06.
The partecipants: Aalborg Pirates, Kazakh Saryarka Karaganda, HK Gomel from Belarus and Cracovia from Poland, must confirm their participation in the tournament with new dates until December 22.
"All international hockey has been shut down in January, and with the new Omicron variant, it has been assessed that it was best to postpone the event. We saw at the U20 WC in Denmark that everyone was tested negative when they left the event, but a few days later the cases of infection began to occur, so we can not know for sure, and in this situation it is probably the only right solution" says Aalborg Pirates director Lars Laursen to Nordjyske website
"We were preparing to play in January. When it became known that the deadlines were shifted, we immediately began to work out options for shifting either the Cup, or the championship playoff matches with the participation of our team." commented the General Director of Gomel Alexei Skurkovsky
