Because of the pandemic it was not deemed sustainable for
the EIHL to continue for a full season last year so a mini
series of four teams was set up running for just a month.
This kept a certain amount of interest within the hockey
community as it was imperative that this did not fade, and now we are in the
throes of a new season.
Sheffield Steelers, who have by far been the most consistent
team of the season, top the EIHL standings. This is despite the adversity of
injuries to key players, one of which has become long term. They lost a forward
through a drugs related incident but have still come out on top.
Their nearest rivals are the Cardiff Devils at the moment but
Belfast Giants are hot on the heels of these two with games in hand. The next
club is The Guildford Flames who always appear a strong force but one wonders
if they have the staying power to mount a sustained title challenge.
At the moment things, covid-wise, appear alright but cracks
are appearing and there are hints of disruption to the league after Christmas.
Rest assured we will keep you informed.
