Glasgow Clan sacking
Glasgow Clan of the British Elite League (EIHL) have terminated the contract of their Chief Executive.
An incident occured in Scotland at the end of September which now appears to have been resolved.
Finnish forward, Lasse Uusivirta, was signed by the Glasgow team at the end of September. Then the full back story unfolded:
In January of 2013, a woman at the University of Alabama in Huntsville reported being raped by a hockey player. The player confessed, and he was supposed to be expelled. Instead, he stayed on campus and played in every remaining game. Since then, he's fled the country to his homeland of Finland, evading a first-degree rape charge. Sarah Hoye examines the college judicial process and the different avenues victims have to get justice.
As can be imagined this caused a huge outcry among fans and the signing was overturned.
The General Manager, Neil Black, reacted swiftly by suspending both Malcolm Cameron (Head Coach) and Gareth Chalmers (Chief Executive).
Yesterday Black issued the following statement:
I have now concluded my internal investigation into the events which led to the suspension of both Malcolm Cameron and Gareth Chalmers on Thursday 29 September
As a result of my findings, the Glasgow Clan are with immediate effect making the following changes to the management and reporting structure of the On Ice activities of the Clan
Malcolm Cameron will return to his role as Head Coach, reporting to a newly appointed Clan GM whose role and appointment replaces that of the current Clan Chief Executive.
We hope to be able to confirm the Clan GM appointment in the coming weeks. In the meantime the Head Coach will now report directly to the Clan Chairman until the Clan GM appointment is confirmed
The Club sincerely apologises to anyone upset by recent events.
