Hard lesson for Skautafelag Reykjavikur
The european debut for the Icelandic champion turned into a harsh lesson taught by the HC Panter in Continental Cup first match in Kaunas
The historic debut in a European competition for Skautafelag Rejkyavik did not go as hoped and dreamed, but the Icelandic champions still wrote an indelible page in the club's history. The opponents of Panter Tallinnn, champions of Estonia and this year participants in the Latvian championship, are too stronger
The game broke the deadlock halfway through the first period when Rasmus Kiik concluded a quick counterattack with a precise shot with no chance for Valdimarsson. Four minutes after the first sirens, the Panter doubled their lead with a shot by Jegor Proskurin, assisted by Nikita Puzakov. The third Estonian goal is a clever move by Kevin Parras who scores by tumbling the puck over the goalkeeper.
The second period opens with the injury to Rasmus Kiik, one of the best, forced to leave the ice after a minute due to a clash with an opponent. The Panter didn't feel the pinch and scored two goals in less than a minute with Nikita Puzatov and a nice move from Kevin Parras. In the 30th minute the best chance for the Icelanders, but Daniel Otuoma incredibly missed a deflection into an empty net. Before the end of the period two more Panter goals arrived with defender Patrik Kookmaa and Nikita Puzatov again. Skautafelag doesn't play badly, but when the opponents increase the pace the technical and physical difference emerges.
In the final period the game suddenly becomes tougher, certainly due to a bit of frustration on Rejkyavik's part. With the result largely safe, the Panter dominated the last 20 minutes, scoring another seven goals with Mihkel Vorang, Nikita Puzakov, the 10-0 scored by Jan Lukats after an error by the Icelandic defence, Jaanus Sorokin, captain Kevin Parras and the fourth personal by Nikita Puzakov and finally a perfect solo by Japanese Shuma Kinebuchi
