Energija Elektrenai - HK Mogo 5-6 (0-2,3-3,2-1)

After suffering a disappointing comeback in their opening match, Mogo Riga once again found themselves playing with fire against Energija Elektrėnai. The Lithuanian side, still reeling from a heavy 6-0 defeat to Ferencváros the day before, mounted an extraordinary rally, turning what seemed to be a comfortable game for Mogo into a thrilling contest.

Mogo took early control, opening the scoring at 09:28 through Gatis Sprukts, assisted by Reinis Virsnītis and Rolans Vasiļjevs. Just minutes later, Gints Meija doubled the lead with a goal at 13:13, supported by Kārlis Bucenieks and Krišjānis Rēdlihs. Energija struggled to respond, managing only 12 shots in the first period, while Mogo peppered their goal with 15, leaving the score 2-0 in favor of the Latvians after the first period.

The second period saw Mogo extend their lead, seemingly putting the game out of reach. Sprukts struck again at 21:36, followed by a fourth goal from Kristaps Sotnieks at 24:49. When Reinis Mārtiņš Lejnieks scored at 31:35 to make it 5-1, the game appeared to be over.

However, Energija showed resilience, refusing to go down without a fight. Vakaris Cizas ignited the comeback with a goal at 22:14, and as the period wound down, Karolis Krasilnikovas scored at 38:32, quickly followed by Kipras Grabliauskas at 39:40. Suddenly, the game was within reach for the Lithuanians, closing the second period 5-3.

The momentum swung fully in Energija’s favor in the third period. Just two minutes into the final frame, Tadas Kumeliauskas scored a power-play goal at 42:27, assisted by Paulius Rumševičius, narrowing the gap to one. Five minutes later, Paulius Grybauskas netted the equalizer at 47:42, setting the stage for an improbable comeback. Mogo’s young goalie Arginto Milbergs, who had faced 27 shots, was replaced by the more experienced Henrijs Ančs to stabilize the situation.

As the final minutes ticked away, it seemed like Energija might complete the upset. However, with just 20 seconds remaining in regulation, Mogo struck back. Kārlis Ozoliņš finished a beautiful play, assisted by Renarts Berzins, sealing the hard-fought 6-5 victory for Mogo.

Despite a nearly disastrous collapse, Mogo managed to secure 3 hard-earned points, maintaining their composure in the final moments to avoid a second straight upset. Energija, while ultimately falling short, demonstrated great resolve and tenacity, bouncing back from their previous defeat to give the Latvian side a serious scare.

Ferencvaros TC-Terlekom - Corona Brasov 4-5 (1-0,2-2,1-2,0-1)

In a game packed with emotions right down to the final second, Ferencváros was unable to secure revenge for their previous defeat in the Erste Liga, falling to a resilient Brasov side 5-4 in overtime. Brasov pulled off a miraculous last-second equalizer, then clinched victory in the extra period, leaving the Hungarian squad stunned as they now move on with the weight of this narrow loss.

Ferencváros struggled early against Brasov’s aggressive start, spending much of the first 10 minutes on the back foot. Despite Brasov's intense pressure, Ferencváros’s defense held strong, limiting the Romanians to 12 shots on goal while Hungarian goalie Kristóf Nagy remained a key figure, keeping the score even with his solid positioning. However, a key mistake occurred in the 14th minute when a lost face-off and a poor defensive intervention from Huba Bors allowed Gergő Tóth to break free and send a precise shot past Zoltán Toke, putting Ferencváros ahead 1-0.

The second period brought even more drama. Just past the 22-minute mark, a defensive mistake by Tyson Helgesen allowed Brasov’s Evgeny Skachkov to steal the puck and head straight for goal, equalizing the score 1-1. Ferencváros briefly regained momentum at 31:37, with Lauri Kärmeniemi finishing off a brilliant team play, restoring the lead to 2-1. Yet, Brasov refused to fold, and just four minutes later, Albert Zagidullin redirected a pass from Skachkov to level the game once again at 2-2. The Hungarians dealt a hard blow to Brasov’s morale at 39:59, when Gergely Mattyasovszky scored off a blocked shot on a counterattack, beating Toke with just one second remaining in the period for a 3-2 lead.

The third period began with a quick goal by Ferencváros as Mate Seregely capitalized on a loose puck and found the back of the net just 36 seconds in, pushing the lead to 4-2. Brasov, however, would not be deterred. With the home crowd roaring in support, the ever-reliable Evgeny Skachkov closed the gap to 4-3 on a power-play goal at 46:21, assisted by Albert Zagidullin. Brasov then continued to press, and despite Ferencváros goalie Nagy making crucial saves—including a diving stop on Zagidullin’s breakaway—Brasov pulled their goalie in the final minute. They were rewarded with a controversial penalty on Lauri Kärmeniemi for Delaying the Game, setting up a final face-off. With just 0.08 seconds left on the clock, Skachkov once again delivered, sending a desperation shot through traffic to tie the game 4-4, after a tense video review validated the goal.

In overtime, it was Jared Van Wormer of Brasov who ended the contest at 62:31, scoring the winning goal off a pass from Sébastien Piché, giving Brasov an exhilarating 5-4 victory.

With this victory, Brasov pulled off an incredible comeback, proving their resilience in front of their home crowd, while Ferencváros will be left pondering missed opportunities and costly errors. The thrilling contest sets the stage for an intense next round in the Continental Cup.
