Czechia secures 5-1 victory over Switzerland
Czechia delivered a commanding performance to defeat Switzerland 5-1 in their opening game of the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship at TD Place Arena in Ottawa. With a combination of solid goaltending, disciplined defense, and timely scoring, Czechia began their tournament campaign on a high note.

Czechia wasted little time establishing momentum, opening the scoring at 4:46 when Miroslav Holinka buried a setup from Tomas Galvas. Both teams traded chances throughout the period, with Swiss goalie Elijah Neuenschwander keeping the deficit manageable despite a 10-9 shot advantage for the Czechs.
Czechia capitalized on a power play early in the second period to double their lead. Eduard Salé found the net at 26:10 after a crisp passing play with Holinka and Galvas. Just over a minute later, Ondrej Kos scored off a feed from Vojtech Port, making it 3-0. Despite Switzerland’s efforts, they couldn’t solve Czech netminder Michael Hrabal, who turned aside all eight shots in the frame.
Czechia continued their dominance in the final period. Jakub Stancl scored at 44:31, extending the lead to 4-0. Switzerland finally broke through at 47:08 when Leo Braillard converted a setup from Endo and Simon Meier. However, Petr Sikora iced the game with an empty-netter at 57:31 to finalize the 5-1 scoreline.
