Belgian team won the Continental Cup group in Ankara.
After eight years of absence, a Belgian team returns to
Continental Cup and for the first ever time advances to second round.
Champion
White Caps Turnhout won
5-2 the decisive game in Ankara, Turkey, against Estonian
Kalev Valk Tartu. In a devastating first period the Belgian team scored five unanswered goals and controlled the Estonian reaction in the two remaining periods. Kalev was able to score just two goals, one in the central period and other in the last twenty minutes but at no moment there was a real threat for White Caps. Latvian veteran
Valerijs Filimonovs and American defender
Ryan Warsofsky were the stars of the night with two goals each.
Now White Caps will return to the ice in Budapest, from October 21 to 23, to face Dutch HYS The Hague, Spanish CH Jaca and the host Dunaujvarosi Acelbikak.
White Caps'
Tyler O'Brien and
Marek Ziarny were awarded best goalie and best forward, while Kalev Valk's
Anatoli Jakovlev grabbed the best defender award.
