Carl Söderberg nominated for Guldpucken
12 Oct 2011 | Fredrik Pålsson
With a new format for Sweden's most prestigious hockey award Linköping's Carl Söderberg is the first of nine candidates to this player of the year award.
Guldpucken ("The golden puck") has been awarded by the newspaper Expressen and the Swedish Ice Hockey Association since 1979. The award is given to the player that has been best and most valuable during the season in Elitserien, Allsvenskan and Team Sweden. From this season nine players are nominated to the award and the winner is selected during the World Championships 2012.
The first candiate is Carl Söderberg. After staying several years in Malmö despite them being relegated in 2007 he is now back in Elitserien with Elitserien. He has been one of best players in Elitserien so far with eight points in seven games. Three of his four goals were game winning goals.
Commenting on his nomination Carl said "It was nice, really nice, Guldpucken is a fine award and I remember when Viktor Fasth got it on TV last year. That was cool. I'm very glad to be a candidate. I'm pleased with my season so far. I knew that I had to be better now when I'm back in Elitserien. And a mix of good practice and good team mates have made things work well for me"
