In the derby of Lower Saxony the Hannover Scorpions, DEL champion of 2010, received the Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg, DEL vice champion of 2011. Prior to the game home side Hannover had only won one of its last eleven games (a 3-2 away win against current DEL champion Eisbären Berlin) and therefore fell back to the penultimate place in the table while the Grizzly Adams had a rather mixed success by winning and losing five of their last ten games.
In an even game Wolfsburg scored first through Christoph Höhenleitner (12.) Before and after this goal Grizzly goalie Daniar Dshunussow had to clear more than once good scoring opportunities from the Scorpions. In one of Hannovers stronger phases of the first period Robbie Bina was succesfull in a counter attack and increased the lead of his team (15.). In the mid of the game it was Norm Milley (29.) who scored the last goal of the game. Although Hannover tried everything in the last period, Wolfsburg goalie Dshunussow earned his fifth shutout of the season by saving all 31 shots of the game. After the game both head coaches said that they saw a lot of pressure by the Scorpions but as Grizzly coach Pavel Gross said the performance of his goalie Dshunussow was one of the key factors for the second away win in a row of his team. While Wolfsburg has maintained its good position in the DEL table the Scorpions are even more away from their playoff dream.

In this game Cologne was the clear favourite as the side of two-time Stanley Cup winner Uwe Krupp had won seven of its last ten games and the last one was a 4-1 away win against top team Hamburg Freezers. On the opposite Iserlohn lost its last four games and two of them at home.
After the surprisingly high 1-7 defeat in their last home game against Ingolstadt the Kölner Haie wanted to reconcile with their fans. The game itself couldn't have started better for Iserlohn as they scored just after 150 seconds. When Cologne`s backup goalie Youri Ziffzer only could block a shot to a Rooster player, Steven Rupprich didn't waste the opportunity to bring his colours in front. In the following minutes Iserlohn kept the pressure but Cologne was dangerous in counterattacks and former NHL and KHL goalie Sebastién Caron had to let through two break goals by Brett Breitkreutz (8.) and Greg Claaßen (14.) - the last one was scored even short handed. Home team Cologne couldn't use the 2-1 lead to take the initiative and so Iserlohn came back eight minutes into the second period by a power play goal of Dave Spina (28.). Despite many chances by both teams the result didn't change in the rest of the regular time and also the overtime didn't find a winner. In the shootout the decisive goal was scored by Alexander Weiß while Ziffzer could block the attempt of Iserlohn's Spina. For Cologne it was already the third shootout win at home in the last two weeks which lets them conquer the sixth position in the league with 42 points and cuts the distance to league leaders Adler Mannheim to ten points. Iserlohn is still eleventh with 33 points.
