While three of the top four teams in the DEL won their games confidently at home, Hamburg had to give up all three points away in Munich.

In the game between the two archrivals that was eagerly awaited by the German ice hockey fans and media, the special teams should play a decisive role. In front of more than 12.000 spectators Adler Mannheim scored first through Ronny Arendt (8.) who pushed the puck into the net after a pass from behind the goal by Yannic Seidenberg. When Adler player Marcus King received a match penalty the home team showed its opponent how to be not only more effective in the penalty killing but did score again when Cologne player Philipp Gogulla lost the puck to Yannic Seidenberg in his own defending zone. Seidenberg didn't waste the opportunity and extended the lead of his team in this break (16.). In the following time both teams had good chances but the goalies on both sides did a good job. In the middle of the second period Mannheim already saw itself ahead with three goals but the referees couldn't give the goal due to a distinct kicking motion. Only a few minutes later the Sharks were once again short handed and Michael Glumac (37.) scored in a 5 on 3 power play. Three minutes to the end of the game Matthias Plachta was succesfull with his first goal of the current season. For Mannheim goalie Fredrick Brathwaite it was already the third consecutive shutout.

The current DEL champion Eisbären Berlin awaited bottom club Nürnberg Ice Tigers in the O2 World. 13.600 spectators saw a very strong home side that dominated the first period and used three of its power plays making clear their ambitions to get all three points. Till the end of the first period Richie Regehr, Jim Sharrow and André Rankel had scored for the Polar Bears. Nürnberg tried to come back and scored after exactly 16 minutes. Alexander Oblinger gave the away fans a rason for hope in a hard period with 67 penalty minutes. In the second period Nürnberg let through three goals within 192 seconds. Daniel Weiß, Sven Felski and Barry Tallackson punished Nürnberg for its passivity.
EHC München had only won one of five games against the Hamburg Freezers in their DEL history and lost five times in a row prior to this match. Therefore the pressure lay on the top-6 team from the Elbe. The Bavarians started with a lot of pressure and they already saw themselves in front during the first period until the referees had to cancel the goal after their video review. In the second period Munich again had the better start and this time the goal was awarded to them. Brandon Dietrich used the break to bring his colours in front when only 50 seconds were played. Now the Freezers had to react and Garrett Festerling equalized 75 seconds later. With two goals in the ninth minute of the second period Munich advanced and when Klaus Kathan scored in the power play in 37th minute the game was almost over for the guests. In the last period Brandon Dietrich with his second goal of the night and David Wrigley made the result even more uncomfortable for Hamburg.

In the match betweeen the second and the fith in the DEL table only the home team ERC Ingolstadt was really active on the ice. Two goals by Thomas Greilinger in the first period put them in front. In the second the game didn't change and the Bavarians continued with their pressure. They were rewarded for their efforts with goals by Michael Waginger (25.) and Stephan Retzer (38.). After two periods 27 to 8 shots and a score of 4 to 0 showed clearly the balance of power on the ice. In the last period both teams had few opportunities and the score didn't change anymore. Wolfsburg could still be lucky as Ingolstadt did waste all its seven power plays.
The Straubing Tigers had won all their last eight home games and in the meantime they became a serious contender for a top-6 playoff spot. In their previous two matches against the DEG Metro Stars 17 goals were scored and in both games Straubing was succesfull so the home fans had reason to expect a good game of their team. And Straubing didn't disappoint. In the middle of the first period French international Laurent Meunier scored the 1-0 for Strabing but Düsseldorf came back just a minute later with a power play goal from Connor James. At the beginning of the second period Jeff Ulmer put the Metro Stars in front. After long protests by the Tigers the video review had to decide wether the goal could be given or not and in the end the call on the ice stood. Straubing now played more aggressive and was rewared with the 2-2 - a power play goal by Dustin Whitecotton. In the last period both teams played very offensively-minded. When Matt Hussey scored the 3-2 for Straubing after six minutes the reaction of the guests came just ten seconds later through a goal of Patrick Reimer. Straubing wasn't shocked by the new setback and instead they scored three times in three minutes for a comfortable 6-3 lead. Jeff Ulmer for Düsseldorf and Laurent Meunier for Straubing did finish the game.
Both teams wanted to keep alive their playoff ambitions prior to the game. In the first period the guests from Krefeld played more aggressive and were rewarded with their goal by Andreas Driendl (19.). After the first period the guests lead the shots on goal statistic 12 to 6. In the previous two matches Augsburg wasn't able to score and for a long time this shouldn't change also in this match. Even their feared power play couldn't help them and they wasted all their four opportunities. When everybody believed the tight result would be enough for Krefeld, one of their defenders gave away the puck in a terrible passing attempt in their own defending zone and Florian Schnitzer equalized the game three minutes before the end of the regular time. In the over time Herberts Vasiljevs had the big chance for Krefeld but missed the open goal. On the other side Mario Valery-Trabucco had a nice solo and earned his second game-winning goal of the season.

In Iserlohn the two DEL teams with the worst momentum met. Iserlohn had lost its last five DEL games while Hannover won only one out of eleven games. Both teams needed a win to not lose the contact to the playoff spots and therefore Iserlohn and Hannover played very aggressively. Only the puck didn't want to enter the goal. Only Scott King (22.) could score in a power play early in the second period. Iserlohn tried to find a way past Scorpions goalie Dmitri Pätzold but he could clear all chances. In the end the Roosters removed their goalie but instead of the equalizer Jeff Hoggan gave the Lower Saxons with his empty-netter the long awaited win.
