In all six DEL games on Sunday the teams with the better position in the table prior to the matches won while all underdogs together could collect only a single point.

In Hamburg the local Freezers met the current champion Eisbären Berlin. The game of the two teams belonging to the Anschutz Entertainment Group guaranteed great interest among the fans. For the first time since 26 december 2008 a home game of the Freezers was sold out completely - also due to the far more than 1000 Eisbären supporters among the 12500 spectators. In the first period the Freezers had a clear advantage in chances while the guests had the best opportunity when Hamburg goalie Sean Curry had to let trough a hard shot under his pads that only hit the goal post. The guests improved significantly in the second period and when Talbot conquered the puck in the opponent's zone while his team was shorthanded, his pass found Mulock who scored with a nice one-timer (23.). Five minutes before the end of the period the Freezers did far better in another powerplay and Garrett Festerling equalized the game with a hard shot from a short distance. In the following time the game continued to be very even. The second goal for the capital's team Eisbären Berlin came in a very strange way. Hamburg goalie Sean Curry didn't manage to block away a try from Jim Sharrow in Berlins power play. Instead the puck hit his stick and then jumped two metres only to fall down on his skates from where the puck was pushed over the goal line by Curry himself. The Freezers now went again for the equalizer but had to accept the second goal from Jim Sharrow into the empty net six secons before the end of the last period.

The Hannover Scorpions recently had won their bottom fight away against the Iserlohn Roosters with 2-0 while Munich won 6-1 against the Hamburg Freezers. In a sparsely crowded TUI Arena the guests from Bavaria quickly took the initiative and took the lead by a nice back hand shot from Eric Schneider (12.). Three minutes later Hannover had its second power play opportunity but Jason Ulmer won the puck in his own defending zone and with a great solo he skated in front of the Scorpions goal where he staged the goal of Martin Buchwieser (15.). After the 3-0 by Mike Compon (45.) the match was over. Instead of a Scorpions comeback the Lower Saxons also received the 0-4 by Martin Schymainski (53.).
In Wolfsburg the vice champions of the last two seasons met. The game began with agressive hosts but when Grizzly defender Nathan Paetsch lost the puck behind his own goal Sergio Somma punished this mistake with the first goal of the match. After 15 minutes Kai Hospelts shot was deflected into the goal by Matt Dzieduszycki and left the again very strong Tyler Weiman in Augsburgs goal no chance. Immediately prior to the end of the first period Panther Brian Roloff received a match penalty. In the following five minute power play the Grizzlys were very uneffective until David Laliberte turned the game around seconds before the end of the one man advantage. Only 35 seconds later Furchner increased the lead of the home team. Now the guest's coach took a time-out after which the guests regained their self-confidence. Finally Mario Valery-Trabucco scored the 2-3 (36.). In the last 20 minutes the Panthers stormed but the Bavarians attacks were all defused by Daniar Dschunussow so that the result didn't change anymore.
Bottom club Nürnberg received the only slightly better positioned Iserlohn Roosters who for their part lost the duel against their competitors Hannover Scorpions on Friday. In Nürnberg the start for the guests wasn't that good either after Eric Chouinard brought the home side in front just before the end of the first period. This goal stood for a long time until Nürnberg threw away the lead in the middle of the second period. Yan Stastny received a match penalty after which Cowan (34.) and Wolf (36.) scored for Iserlohn in the following five-minute power play. In the last period York (50.) and Ardelan (60.) made the final result embarassing for the hosts.

Straubing managed to get its 12th win in the last 14 games. It took the Bavarians only 74 seconds until they scored the first time. Now Krefeld wanted the equalizer but instead Straubing scored through Kris Sparre. The goal of Boris Blank (44.) brought hope back to the home fans but only for a shot time as René Röthke (53.) increased the lead of his side to two goals again. One minute before the end of the third Daniel Pietta's shorthanded goal came to late to change the final result.

In Düsseldorf more than 6000 fans wanted to see the game between the two traditional teams DEG Metro Stars and Adler Mannheim. The home fans had a reason for joy when Daniel Kreutzer scored directly in the first power play of the home team. For Breathwaite it was the first goal against after three consecutive shutouts. In the following to period the game was a roller coaster for both teams. First Ken Magowan (29.) and Yannic Lehoux scored for Mannheim until Düsseldorf equalized the game through Evan Kaufmann whose shot was deflected into the net by Breathwaite (40.). When Ben Gordon (51.) brought the Metro Stars back in front with a nice back hander the game seemed to be over but Christoph Ullmann (58.) sent the game into the overtime in which Lehoux scored again to secure the away win for Mannheim.
