Against bottom team Iserlohn Roosters the DEG Metro Stars had more difficulties than thought before. The goal for the hosts from Iserlohn then also came in a strange way. After DEG goalie Robert Goepfert received a match penalty his backup Jean-Sébastien Aubin was only 12 seconds between the posts until Mike York put the 1-0 on the screen (32.). In the third period Düsseldorf improved and earned the equalizer through Andrew Roach (44.) who scored in the power play. In this period the guests outshot their opponent 20:6 but couldn't score another time. The decision had to be made in the shooutout where the Metro Stars scored twice while Iserlohn failed in its first two tries.
In Straubing just the bottom club Hannover Scorpions managed to win. Before the Tigers had won 14 of their last 16 DEL games. Also on Friday it didn't look like the Bavarians would have to take another loss. Their early lead with a delayed penalty came after five minutes through Matt Hussey. Also the goals of Ryan Maki and David Sulkovsky turned around the game until the middle of the game four goals within six minutes before and after the end of the second period gave the hosts a solid three-goal lead. Now Hannover showed why it became league Champion in 2010 by having a great come-back late in the third. The goals of Andreas Morczinietz, Christopher Herperger and Eric Regan tied the game again. The decision in an even game was found in the shootout Morczinietz with his second goal of the night was the match winner.
At home Nürnberg once more proofed that you can still count with them in the fight for the playoff spots. Despite two early goals for the guests scored by Greg Moore and Kyle Helms in the first ten minutes of the match, Alexander Oblinger and Yan Stastny with their goals immediately after begin and end of the second period could tie the game. Statstnys goal came after a beautiful solo against three Panther players and the goalie. The hosts were lucky when Tobias Draxinger failed in a break-away chance for Augsburg in the middle of the third period. In the end the game winnig goal was scored by James Pollock who turned the game around completely for the home side one minute before the end of the over time. After Nürnberg won the face off his extremly hard shot from the blue line founds its way back into the net.

In Mannheim the hosts needed at least one point to defend the first place in the league table while Hamburg wanted to end its negative streak of the last weeks. When Adler goalie Breathwaite couldn't get the puck away behind his own goal it was Garrett Festerling who scored for the Freezers after almost six minutes played. In the middle period it was Shawn Belle (32.) who tied the game from the blue line with a shot that didn't seem to be that dangerous but Hamburgs goalie couldn't see it due to a player in front of him. Only two and a half minutes later it was again Festerling who brought Hamburg in front. After a pass from Jerome Flaake he stood alone in front of Breahtwaite and in the second try he scored. In the last period Mannheim became the stronger team on the ice and also could score the equalizer through Michael Glumac. Despite many other chances the result didn't change anymore so that the shootout had to decide the winner. In the ninth round of the shootout it was Serge Aubin who ended the game with a positive result for the Freezers while Mannheim stays first in the table.

Both teams convinced with good results in the last weeks but only one of them could win yesterday. In an even first period with eleven shots on goal on each side it were the Eisbären Berlin who could score twice within 45 seconds late in the first. After four minutes played in the second Alexander Weiß scored for Cologne against his former teammates from Berlin while being shorthanded. Later in the same period Berlin did it better in another power play and this time TJ Mulock deflected the puck into the net. Only a minute later Patrick Pohl with his first goal in the DEL decided the game. In the last Berlin concentrated on its defense and Cologne only scored the 2-4 when Jason Jaspers stood immediately in front of the goalie. With their win the Eisbären cut the distance to league leaders Adler Mannheim to only one single point.
In Lower Saxony the hosts from Wolfsburg didn't let their opponent a chance to win despite being outshot 23:32. After a first period without goals it was Kai Hospelt who brought the Grizzly Adams in front (25.) while being shorthanded. For the guests from Munich it was the first goal against this season while being in an own power play. Until the end of the period the special teams on both sides continued to play a major role and both teams scored in the power play. First Swede Jens Olsson (36.) tide the game for München, then Benedikt Kohl (38.) brought his colours back in front. In the last period Wolfsburg had only six shots on goal but two of them passed the goal line. Roobie Bina and Benedikt Kohl with his second made the solid home win perfect for the hosts

ERC Ingolstadt was the clear favourite in this game as third in the league table while Krefeld was tenth. But Ingolstadt was warned as they lost the two games against Krefeld this season so far. Despite six penalties in the first six minutes of the matche no team wanted to accept the early Christmas present and so it was Rick Girard who scored after eight minutes for Ingolstadt. At the begin of the second Krefeld scored two early goals in the power play and turned the game around but Ingolstadt stayed far more active and hat 14:6 shots on goal only in the second period. Result of this was the equalizer by Derek Hahn only a minute before the break. In the last period Krefeld was the stronger team but this time Ingolstadt scored. Derek Hahn and Jeff Likens ended the game and made sure the first win against Krefeld for the ERC this season.
