The Kölner Haie met the Krefeld Pinguine in the so called "small" Rhine derby two days after the big derby win against archrivals DEG Metro Stars.
When Torsten Ankert received a penalty early in the game it was Richard Pavlikovsky who scored in the power play to get Krefeld the important away lead (7.). But instead of becoming more confident the guests allowed many chances for Cologne and so Brett Breitkreuz could push the puck over the goal line after the away goalie Scott Langkow couldn't clear the blue line shot from former Krefeld player Philip Riefers (10.). Until the end of the first period Moritz Müller in a power play situation (12.) and Greg Claaßen with a wrap around goal (15.) put a 3-1 on the board. The break after 20 minutes couldn't stop Cologne which continued with its strong play. First Alexander Weiß scored the fourth goal for the home team after three minutes in the second and then Jason Jaspers decided the game with the 5-1 following a break when Cologne was shorthanded. The rise up against the loss came too late for Krefeld. The goals scored by Ben Ondrus and Andreas Driendl could only make the final result a bit more comfortable but nothing more.

In the top game of the match day in the DEL Ingolstadt let Hamburg never a chance to find into the game. A total of 41-20 shots on goal demonstrated clearly the dominance of the home team on the ice. After only 101 seconds Jeff Likens netted in the first for Ingolstadt. Despite a superiority in goal scoring efforts it took them until one minute before the end of the second period to score the next goal. This time Thomas Greilinger was succesful. A nice solo of Michael Waginger three minutes into the third period brought the early decision. Hamburg was only rarely seen in the attack and had only ten shots on goal in the last two periods. In a delayed penalty Luciano Aquino could increase the lead to four to put the final result.

In the game of bottom club Hannover Scorpions and DEL record champion Adler Mannheim the roles were clear. Everything but an away win would have been a surprise and so the guests tried to make their ambitions for the three points clear early in the match. Two goals by Matthias Plachta brought Mannheim early in front. In the second goal he was a bit lucky as his shot from a very sharp angle directly from the boards surprised Hannover goalie Pätzold who deflected the puck in his own net. A minute later Mannheim defender Chris Lee lost the puck. Although Ryan Maki failed to score in the following short handed break the rebound was netted in by Patrick Buzas. In the same power play Chris Lee could correct his mistake and score the 3-1 for the guests from the blue line. Until the end of the period Ronny Arendt increased the lead to three. The Scorpions wanted to come back and when Chris Herperger scored after only 25 seconds in the second period there was still hope left for the home fans which was destroyed by Ken Megowan who did the 5-2 for Mannheim (33.). Chris Herpergers second goal of the game eight seconds before the end of the third period came far too late.
Bottom club Nürnberg Ice Tigers received EHC München for the Bavarian derby. Despite their positions in the table there was no class difference between the two clubs. Munich scored two times the lead trough Johan Ejdepalm and Ulrich Maurer while Nürnberg came back with goals of Vitalij Aab and Alexander Oblinger. When Munich scored thorugh Brandon Dietrich (57.) the hosts had no power left for another equalizer. Instead Mike Kompon decided the game one and a half minutes prior to the end of the third.

During the last weeks current DEL champion Eisbären Berlin found back to its old strength while the DEG Metro Stars fell back in the league table and had to take a home loss in the derby against arch rivals Kölner Haie on Monday.
After only 15 seconds Patrick Reimer put the guests in front. This lead should stay for a long time until Jens Baxman scored in a delayed penalty (17.). In the middle period Düsseldorf was overrun by the hosts and goals by Constantin Braun, Sven Felski and Julian Talbot - the last one in a power play where Berlin is best in the DEL statistics - mirrored the current form of both teams on the ice. In the last period Julian Talbot scored another two goals to get his first ever DEL hattrick. Adam Courchaine's goal for the 6-2 with 07:27 left on the clock set a point behind the game.

In Augsburg one of the best home teams of the league had to play against one of the best ones away. Prior to the game Augsburg had won 30 of its 37 points in its own arena. And the home team let no room for speculations that it wanted to continue their home streak. Despite good chances on both sides, goals were only scored by the hosts. Sergio Somma and Mario Valery-Trabucco scored in the first period. The lead was increased by Steffen Tölzer and Brian Roloff in the following two periods to give Augsburg the well-deserved win.
