Biel missed a big opportunity to secure their playoff spot while the other three home teams (SCL Tigers, Rapperswil-Jona Lakers and EV Zug) won their games.
EHC Biel - Fribourg-Gottéron 2:3Biel wanted to improve its position in the fight for the playoff spots compared to the Genève-Servette HC while the guests had the chance to conquer the first place in the league standings. At the beginning eveything looked like the game would become boring as Dubé and Vauclair brought Fribourg in front with two goals in the first four minutes. In the 23rd minute Heins scored from the blue line to even increase this solid lead. In the last Biel showed that they had not yet given up and that they also can score twice within a minute. Miéville after a rebound and Wieser with a penalty shot had cut the lead to one until the 45th minute. During the rest of the match Fribourg had to suffer a lot but didn't allow another goal.
SCL Tigers - SC Bern 5:3At home the SCL Tigers had to win against SC Bern to keep their playoff dreams alive. In the 12th minute Vigier opened the score for the guests who were the clear favourites according to league experts. The guests' lead was the result of a mistake of SCL Tigers goalie Leimbacher who stood too far away from his own goal when e was surprised by his opponent. Two minutes prior to the first break Pelletier tied the game for the hosts. Now the Tigers took the boost and when Bucher was succesful in his penalty shot attempt (26.) the game had been turned around completely. Six minutes later it was Polak who could increase the hosts' lead to 3-1 after a fast counter-attack. Now Bern had to react and did so after 37 minutes when Dumont cut the lead to one in a power play situation. Berns power play stayed a dangerous weapon and in another man advantage Pascal Berger scored the equalizer (46.). The Tigers now intensified their play again and the result was the 4-3 by a nice individual effort of Adrian Gerber (56.) who forced his way through three defending players and the goalie. In the last minute Bern pulled out the goalie but couldn't tie the game anymore while Polak with his second goal scored the 5-3 final result one second before the horn. The Tigers now are 12 points behind Biel which is on the eighth and therefore last playoff spot.
Rapperswil-Jona Lakers - Ambrì-Piotta 5:3In the match between Rapperswil and Ambrì-Piotta only the guests had a realistic playoff chance but te Lakers had won their last game against Davos which gave them a huge boost. In the eighth minute Nils Berger tried it with a shot from the blue line and surprised the guests goalie who had to let the puck under his pads. Schlagenhauf scored the equalizer in an even game (15.) but only two minutes later it was again Berger who brought the Lakers back in front. Around "half time" Walker tied the game for Ambrì-Piotta when he scored after a break opportunity. Again the Lakers found a fast answer when Derrick Walser was able to give his team the lead for the third time in this match only a minute later. In the last period Jordan Murray used a power play opportunity to give his team a two-goal lead (46.) but a hard wrist shot by Kobach (55.) made the duel exciting again. Ambrì-Piotta tried everything to avoid the great disappointment but Aurelio Lemm scored the 5-3 final score for Rapperswil with his last minute empty-netter.
EV Zug - Kloten Flyers 4:1 NLA leader EV Zug had only few problems to win the match against the Kloten Flyers. A former Kloten junior player, 19 year old Dominic Lammer, stood in the limelight when he opened the score after five minutes with his first ever NLA goal which was similar to the famous lacrosse-style one of Mikael Granlund during the 2011 World Championship against Russia. Lindemann, another former Kloten player, increased the lead with two goal in the first period. In the middle period Lammer again fooled Klotens goalie to also score his second of the day. Two minutes prior to the end of the last period it was Keller who could only score the consolation goal for disappointing Flyers.
Asked about his first goal, Lammer answered: "I just tried it. You do it also during team practice and I'm happy it did go in."
