Damien Brunner: European Player of the Month for November
22 Dec 2012 | Andreas Reiner
Damien Brunner becomes only the second player to earn the European Player of the Month award twice.
Wait, we’ve had this name before, right? Exactly, Damien Brunner
was chosen Player of the Month this past February with an impressive 60 points in 45 games and became the first swiss-born topscorer since Guido Lindemann in 1981/1982.
This time the story could repeat itself, Brunner is leading the scorer-sheet with a more than impressive 51 points (23 goals/28 assists) in 29 games. The chance he’ll beat last season’s record is only a question of time and, as so often this season, a question of the NHL Lockout.
What is more impressive this time though is that Brunner is not the only top player in the NLA. He’s battling for the top scoring title with players such as Linus Omark, Glen Metropolit (both EV Zug btw., the Club Damien Brunner is playing for) Tyler Seguin, John Tavares, Joe Thornton, Henrik Zetterberg, Patrice Bergeron etc. The next swiss-born player you can find in the standings is Dario Bürgler with 32 games and 30 points at 8th place.
HC Davos was more than happy to secure his skills for the upcoming Spengler Cup starting December 26th, together with Raphael Diaz they’ll try to win the Cup for a 16th time.
Management of the Detroit Red Wings are for sure observing their acquisition closely and Damien Brunner is doing is best to secure a spot on the roster of the Wings once action returns to the NHL.
