Jakob Silfverberg, 21, recently won the award Guldhjälmen as Elitserien’s Most Valuable Player. Now Eurohockey.com’s visitors have named him European Player of the Month for March.
Eight players were nominated for our monthly award this time. Eero Kilpeläinen, goalie of Jokerit, had the lead for a long time in the voting on Facebook, but with a strong finish Silfverberg beat him with 110 votes.
Silfverberg has taken his team Brynäs to the Swedish Elitserien finals. He has scored 7 goals and 6 assists in 11 games in the playoffs.
This is the first time in 13 years that Brynäs makes in to the finals. Mostly thanks to Jakob Silfverberg and another young forward, Calle Järnkrok. In the finals Brynäs will face Skellefteå who today knocked out AIK.
Brynäs finished the regular season on fourth place, Skellefteå on second. Silfverberg finished second in scoring with 24 goals and 30 assists.
Silfverberg signed a contact with Ottawa Senators of NHL last year and has been on loan to Brynäs this season. His plan is to move to Ottawa for next season and try to make it in the NHL.
Jakob Silfverberg’s father Jan-Erik Silfverberg also played for Brynäs. He was a solid defenseman who represented Sweden in the World Championship 1977.
