Elitserien Saturday

08 Jan 2012 | Fredrik Pålsson

A short summary of the Elitserien games played on Saturday. Wins for Växjö, HV71, Djurgården, MoDo and Brynäs.

Linköping - Växjö 1-2
Linköping had 1-0 after two periods in the game against Växjö and seemed top be in control of the game. But two quick goals halfway through the third period turned the game around and Växjö won 2-1. A strong win but Växjö who are missing several key players due to injury right now. Oscar Alsenfelt did another good game in goal for Växjö with 30 saves. Linköping are now second last and will have to play in the relegation round if they don't start winning.

Timrå - HV71 1-5
Timrå is a sinking ship in Elitserien and lost their sixth straight game. The fans are also abandoning the team and in the 1-5 lost at home to HV71 only 3836 tickets were sold, bad for the finances of a club in crisis. Kamil Piros had two goals and one assist in a solid win for HV71. Junior Daniel Öhrn scored his first Elitserien goal for Timrå. Timrå are now 14 points behind the closest team.

Djurgården - Skellefteå 3-2
The league leaders Skellefteå came back from 0-2 away to Djurgården with two power play goals. Anders Söderberg assisted on the first and scored the second. But Djurgården still won the game as Kristoffer Ottosson scored a shorthanded game winner with seven minutes left to play. Jimmy Ölvestad assisted on all Djurgården's goals. The win keeps Djurgården over the playoff line while Skellefteå still leads.

MoDo - Luleå 3-1

Modo with big injury on defense still took a strong 3-1 win at home against Luleå. The result means that Modo are now tenth over the line that leads to the relegation round. Nicklas Danielsson keeps on scoring for Modo with two new points today. Niklas Olausson assisted on Luleå's goal and have now scored at least one point in the ten last games.

Brynäs - Färjestad 4-1
Third placed Brynäs keeps on playing good and took another solid victory. The third place scores a lot of goals and despite 1-1 after the first period Färjestad was never close to any points in this game.
