Hamburg Freezers - Nürnberg Ice Tigers 1:0

Hamburg gets an important home win in their top-6 fight against Nürnberg, penultimate of the DEL table, and increases the distance to followers DEG Metro Stars to three points. The game was far more difficult for the Northern Germans than expected. Brendan Brooks opened the score for the Freezers in the 34th minute which turned out to be the game-winner. One reason for the small margin was that Hamburg wasted all its seven power play opportunities. Freezers goalie John Curry earned a 30 save shutout while Nürnberg's Patrick Ehelechner had to let through only one of the 34 shots he had to face during the 60 minutes of play.

Eisbären Berlin - ERC Ingolstadt 1:2 OT

The top game of the day was as close as expected by the fans and media. Despite many good scoring chances on both sides, the teams had to wait a long time for the first goal. In the 31st Julian Talbot made it 1-0 for the hosts from Berlin but only one and a half minutes later Jared Ross gave the answer for Bavarians. The goalies Rob Zepp (Berlin) and Ian Gordon (Ingolstadt) did a great job in net and had a lot to do. In the end Zepp had to let one more through when Derek Hahn decided the game in overtime in favour of Ingolstadt.

Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg - Adler Mannheim 1:3

In today's other match of two title aspirants Mannheim won in Wolfsburg and reconquered the third place in the DEL table from their director neighbours. The match started with an early power play goal by Nathan Paetsch who brought the Grizzly Adams in front after just five minutes. In the middle period it was Nick Dimitrakos who scored twice to turn the game around completely. Although Wolfsburg outshot their opponent 30 to 22 the Eagles made their away win perfect when Michael Glumac used a man advantage with less than two minutes to go in the third period.

Iserlohn Roosters - Hannover Scorpions 4:1

Iserlohn earned an important win against the weakest team of the league to improve their position for a pre-playoff spot. Despite the initial goal by Jeff Hoggan for Hannover after exactly four minutes, Iserlohn turned the game around in front of their own fans with goals by Mike York and Dave Spina - the second one in power play. This outcome had been likely as the Rososters outshot the Scorpions 22 to 8 in the first. In the second Hannover improved its play significantly but had to take the cold shower when Stefan Langwieder increased Iserlohn's lead to two eary in the period. With nine minutes left on the clock Colton Fretter made everything clear for the Western Germans.

DEG Metro Stars - Augsburger Panther 2:3

Düsseldorf had to take a heavy home loss against a direct competitor that not only lets their aspirations for a top-6 spot be more difficult but also endangers their pre-playoff qualification. In the middle of the first period Cam Paddock and Justin Fletcher get a two-goal lead for Augsburg which was cut to one when Andrew Roach scored in the second. Early in the third again Paddock made it a two-goal lead again but now Düsseldorf played with a lot of pressure and earned the 2-3 when Patrick Reimer scored in a power play situation. In the end the race to catch up by the Metro Stars came to late and Augsburg earned important three imporant points away.

Krefeld Pinguine - Straubing Tigers 1:2 SO

The other team from the West that had to play this evening, Krefeld, was willing to win against the favourites from Straubing but they had problems in front of the opponent's goal. Only when Sandro Schönberger opened the score for the Bavarians in the 10th minute, Krefeld found a way to let the puck enter the Tigers goal as Patrick Hager tied the game for them just a minute after the Straubing lead. There were no more goals on both sides during the rest of the regular time and also the overtime did not find a winner. In the following shootout French international Laurent Meunier was the one to decide the game in the sixth round in favour of Straubing which now is five points behind the fourth placed Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg.
