Kopitar scores the winner when Kings win game one

31 May 2012 | Henrik Lundqvist

The Stanley Cup finals have started. Slovenia's super star Anze Kopitar got the game-winning goal in the first game when Los Angeles Kings beat New Jersey Devils in overtime.

Anze Kopitar got a pass from Justin Williams and found himself all alone with New Jersey's goalie Martin Brodeur at 8:13 of the overtime period. Kopitar made no mistake and got the 2-1 game-winner for Kings.

"I didn't know if they had a backchecker coming, but I knew Kopi was in the area over there," Williams said to NHL.com. "That's when you just throw an area pass over there; hopefully he skates into it and hopefully it's timed right. Fortunately it was."

Kings took the lead half-ways through the first period when Colin Fraser scored from the right circle.

Russia's Anton Volchenkov tied it in the second period with a lot of luck. The puck went of Vyacheslav Voynov's chest and into the net.
