Timrå and AIK surprise top teams

Timrå and AIK surprise top teams

01 Dec 2012 | Fredrik Pålsson

A couple of surprises when a full round was played in Elitserien today.

After five consecutive losses and three games in a row without a single scored goal Timrå surprised Luleå on away ice. Luleå who has been brilliant lately was slow started and Timrå looked good for three points after 2-0 in the first period. But Luleå came back and turned the game around to a 3-2 lead when Karl Fabricius scored six minutes into the third period. But Timrå didn't give up and made a strong third period and with just three seconds left of the game they got awarded when Max Friberg scored his second goal of the game to take the game to overtime. Later Timrå also secured the bonus point when Per Hallin was the only scorer in the shootout. Luleå's goalie Johan Gustafsson had the chance to break a consecutive shutout record but didn't play as he was sick.

AIK was another bottom team that surprised when they won 4-3 away to another AIK team, Skellefteå AIK. Broc Little gave AIK a 2-1 lead shorthanded and later assisted on Mattias Janmark's beuatiful 3-2 goal on power play. Nicklas Jensen scored the game winning 4-2 with 2:35 left. Skellefteå scored a late goal but never managed to tie the game.

Färjestad defeated Modo 2-1 in a close game with few chances. Christian Berglund was a big part of the game. He scored the game winning goal 12:05 into the second period and seven minutes later he was sent off with a game misconduct for leaving the bench to fight Mattias Ritola after a hard tackle by Ritola. Modo dominated the third period but Alexander Salak was solid and only conceded one goal today.

Rögle continues to lose and despite 33 shots on goals they didn't scored their first goal until it was 1:29 left. Andreas Andersson made 32 saves for Linköping who already hade scored three goals when Rögle scored their first. Carl Söderberg is showing great form and scored the first goal and assisted on the second goal.

Frölunda seems to be finding form and won their third straight game. Julius Hudacek made 28 saves for the shutout against Brynäs. Two goals after five and seven minutes by PJ Axelsson and Anton Axelsson gave Frölunda the win and Jari Tolsa finished the scoring with an emtpy netter.

Växjö has been very impressive under new coach Sam Hallam and took another nice win with a 3-0 victory in the derby against HV71. Last year's top scorer hasn't been as good this year but scored the first two goals to give Växjö a 2-0 lead. Dennis Rasmussen is Växjö's top goal scorer this year and he made it 3-0 late in the third period. Fredrik Norrena made 31 saves for the shutout. Växjö is leaving the bottom teams behind them and perhaps they can start look up towards a playoff spot.
