Jan Kovar: European Player of the Month for March
25 Apr 2013 | Marek Kratochvil
HC Skoda Pilsen’s forward, Jan Kovar was established as a player of the month for March by the Eurohockey.com visitors. He had behind himself a fantastic season, which he managed to finish with an outstanding performance during the Czech play-offs.
Jan Kovar gained almost a thousand of votes in
the choice of last man of the month, during which he managed to gather 5 goals
and 7 assists in 11 games. He wasn’t the most producitve player of the other
candidates, which were Chris Lee, Layne Ulmer, Alexander Yeryomenko and David
Ling, but he was probably the most valuable one in the comparison of his
league‘s level.
For more, his fantastic condition lasted
longer than just during March. Until the very end of the season in the Czech
Republic, he was an important part of the current champion team from Pilsen and
stood behind the biggest success in the club’s history as he helped to get the
cup to the town for the first time ever.
After the regular season, he managed to held
his productivity near a point on the match, but in the play-offs, his form
graduated. In the end, he has became a most productive league player (11+15) in
the play-offs ahead of his captain (8+12) by six points just as he won the
table of goal scorers (11), again with Martin Straka (8) just behind him.
For sure, his performance calls for the
invitation into the Czech national team for the upcoming World Championship
after which, he will most probably go to the KHL. Magnitogorsk seems to have an
interest in this golden boy from Pisek, who conquered the Czech league still
just 23-years-old.
