Medveščak is officially admitted in KHL
KHL Medveščak Zagreb was officially accepted today as the newest member of the Russian Kontinental Hockey League (KHL), becoming the 28th member.
Today a meeting of representatives of the KHL and Medveščak completed the negotiations for the access of Medveščak Zagreb in KHL from next 2013-14 season
The agreement was reached after lengthy negotiations and a visit of the KHL Commission last week in Zagreb to check the Arena and the other facilitations. In the coming days the KHL's Board Meeting, headed by the president of the League Alexander Medvedev, will ratify Medveščak membership.
"This is a confirmation of many years of hard work and effort of all of us in the club, but also a reward for everyone - fans, friends, sponsors and partners who believed in the project in the last four years and were there for us. But our work is only now beginning! There is lot of work and challenges ahead of us, the most important is the approval of the budget for our first season in the amount of about 10 million. Budget will be closed with the help of local, regional and international sponsors" said Medveščak President Damir Gojanović.
"Medveščak is one of the most well-known and stable clubs in central Europe - said after the meeting KHL president Alexander Medvedev.- It's a team with an half-century history, a large number of titles and a strong tradition. I would like to acknowledge the efforts that puts the club for the promotion of hockey in the region this season, Medveščak played in the ancient coliseum in Pula, and its matches at the Zagreb Arena are always sold out. .I would like to welcome Medveščak in the KHL, and wish them a successful and interesting season"
