Former defender and coach passed away at 57
Andrzej Nowak lost his battle against a disease and passed away at 57. Born in Czarny Dunajec, Nowak played for Podhale Nowy Targ (1974-1976) and Zagłębie Sosnowiec (1976-1986), winning 7 Polish Leagues, two with Podhale 1(975, 1976) and five associated with Sosnowiec (1980-1981-1982-1983-1985) before to spend the rest of his playing career in Germany between Deggendorf (1986 -1987), Esslingen (1988-1994) and Bad Liebezell (1994-1996). With national team he earned 50 caps - with five goals - partecipating in Winter Olympics in Sarajevo 1984 and in World Championship (1982, 1983). After his retirement he become youth coach working in Sosnowiec and in last two seasons as assistant coach in GKS Katowice.
He was awarded with the Silver Medal "For Merit for Polish Olympic Movement" and with the Silver Medal of Poland Ice Hockey Federation
