The European Parliament Resolution on EU policy towards Belarus, approved in Strasbourg, contains also a recommandation for IIHF about next IHWC
Last week the European Parliament in Strasbourg approved a report presented by Lithuanian representative Justas Paleckis on EU policy towards Belarus. Report calls in the resolution on the International Ice Hockey Federation to "seriously reconsider its decision to allow Belarus to host the 2014 Ice Hockey World Championship". Mr. Paleckis have repeatedly stressed that a prerequisite to the commencement of any dialogue with Minsk is release and rehabilitation of all political prisoners in Belarus .The document also states that the Eastern Partnership Summit in Vilnius in November "could be an important opportunity to improve the relations between Belarus and the EU , provided that the Belarusian authorities release and rehabilitate all political prisoners ."
The Euro Parliament initiative followed a similar reccomandation issued by OSCE in 2012 and a resolution by US Congress approved in 2011
