After the defeat against Barys club decided to replace Finnish coach
"It's a difficult period for our team, but we will find the path that will allow us to once again become a team appropriate to the tradition of Avangard" These words, pronounced after the defeat 5-2 against Barys Astana, were the last for Petri Matikainen as head coach of Avangard Omsk. The club decided to fire Finnish coach after a mediocre start in KHL: in six games Avangard won 3 and lost the other 3, enough for club Board.
Club's general manager Yury Karmanov said: "The level of play at the beginning of the season did not meet our requirements, and we made the decision to terminate the contract with the coach. Evgeny Kornoukhov will act as interim coach.. Shortly we will define the candidacy of the head coach "
