Vikingar retains title in Iceland sweeping Bjornin in final series
The town of Akureyri is again the capital of Icelandic hockey: after national title captured by women team last week, also Vikingar men confirmed their dominance sweeping Bjornin 3-0 (4-3, 6-1, 5-3) in the final series, after dominating regular season. Americans Ben DiMarco - league top scorer - and goalie Rett Vossler were the backbone of the team and key players for final victory. Bjornin had a minor contribution by its Danish trio, defender Boas Gunnarsson and forwards Thomas Nielsen and Lars Foder. This is the title number 14 for SA Vikingar, the most victorious team since the creation of Icelandic league in 1992. Bjornin closed the season with a positive silver medal, the second consecutive after the title in 2011-2012 and a promising third place by its farm team Hunar. A season to forget for Skautafélag Reykjavíkur, finished last with only six points, overtaken even from their farm team Falkar
