With 4 seconds left in regulation, Fribourg scores the game tying goal and wins in overtime

Tonight was Klotens chance to advance to the Final early with a win in game 5 against Fribourg. Just like in game 4 Fribourg had the better recipe to find a way through the Flyers defense in the first period while Kloten struggled to create dangerous chances eventhough the shot on goal ratio was at 9:9. Apart from a 2 minute minor (Crosschecking) against Vauclair the first period ended without a goal.

Period 2 started with a fast goal by the Flyers as Romano Lemm was left alone in front of Conz and defeated him in the first minute, assisted by Matthias Bieber. The game continued to be an up and down with great chances on both sides, Fribourg with a slight advantage, especially with 4 minutes left when Gottéron created a 5 on 5 powerplay, creating 3-4 dangerious chances but Martin Gerber was absolutely confident.

Fribourg's powerhockey continued in the 3rd period when Yannick Herren was benched for 2 minutes for Hooking and had some good chances but couldn't profit from the advantage because Kloten blocked shots whenever possible. Would this be the end of the season for the Dragons? With 10 minutes played Flyers Captain Stancescu was assessed with a 2 minute minor for roughing and yet another chance for Fribourg to score the equalising goal but Gerber proved why he was the number one goalie for the Flyers as he blocked and saved shots on his goal. With 3 minutes left, Christian Dubé acted overeager, slashing his opponents stick into pieces and was therefore benched for 2 minutes. But Vandermeer also was assessed with 2 minutes for Tripping which meant a 4 on 4 situation for a minute before Fribourg would play with the advantage. Dubé then returned to the ice and at the same time Conz left his goal to give Fribourg a 6th player. Gerber blocked a shot from Fribourg, giving them a chance for a Time-out. The Dragons now had 6 attackers on the ice and with 4 seconds Fribourgs Julien Sprunger pushed the puck over the ice to send the game to overtime for the second time in this series.

With the start of overtime, Kloten seemed to have a better start, forechecking aggressively and getting their chances but no goal. Then, with 14 minutes played, Marc-Antoine Pouliot scored on a rebound from Martin Gerber who had no chance this time and ended the game.

Kloten had the chance to end this series in the 3rd period but will have another chance when they play at home on Tuesday. Fribourg extended their season for at least another game.
