After six close games Kosice won the last game of the Slovak finals 6-0 against Nitra. Kosice wins the championship - and qualifies for Champions Hockey League.
After Tomas Marcinko's 1-0 goal in the first period Kosice added another four, scored by Tomas Hrncka, Radek Deyl, Peter Sojcik and Matej Cesik, in the middle act. Cesik finalized the scoring in the third period for a 6-0 win against Nitra.
"Wonderful feelings filled Steel Arena", says Kosice head coach Anton Tomko. "The fans created a perfect atmosphere".
This was the first clear win after six close game. It was in fact the first game Kosice won in regulation. They won game one 4-3 after game-winning shots, game three 4-3 in overtime and game five 2-1 after yet another shoot-out.
This was the seventh time Kosice became Slovak champion. Last time they won it was in 2011.
