Sparta destroys Litvínov in the Czech Extraliga

VÍTKOVICE STEEL v. MLADÁ BOLESLAV 4:1 (2:0, 0:1, 2:0)

The second last team of the Extraliga peloton arrived to Ostrava with a hope to decrease its margin to the 10th spot of Vítkovice, which after the regular season would assure a playoff ticket.

But the Metallurgists won the game 4-1 thanks to its high efficiency in the first period and thanks to Vladimír Svačina who scored 1 goal and 2 assists. Therefore Mladá Boleslav remains in its 13th spot. Thanks to the three points, Vítkovice climb past Olomouc to the 9th position.

PSG ZLÍN v. OCELÁŘI TŘINEC 2:3 OT (1:1, 0:0, 1:1 - 0:1)

Pre-game position of teams in the standings not always predict the way they will play. In case of the match of Zlín (11th) and Třinec (1st), you would expect the away team to dominate the game. But the Luděk Čajka Arena is not a place to feel welcomed for Třinec.

The home team took the lead twice - early in the first period and then 10 minutes before the last horn. But the Steelers tied it up both times. And as a bonus, a former NHL-er in the Třinec’s uniform Rostislav Klesla added one more goal during overtime, so Třinec earns its 12th victory in the row.

OLOMOUC v. MOUNTFIELD HK 1:4 (0:0, 1:3, 0:1)

The Red Cocks of Olomouc (8th) could switch position with Mountfield in its seventh position if they won their mutual game, but as they lost, they did not. And what's more, in combination of further victories of Liberec and Vítkovice Olomouc even falls down to the tenth place.

Mountfield of Hradec Králové was the better team during the night. After the goal-less first period the away players scored three times during the second. And in the third, just after comeback from the lockers, they added the 4th goal and locked out the score on 4-1..

BÍLÍ TYGŘI LIBEREC v. ENERGIE KARLOVY VARY 1:0 (0:0, 0:0, 1:0)

If the team of Karlovy Vary (12th) was keen on statistics, they rather could stay at home instead of playing any more away games. The Energizers are the worst Extraliga teams, when it comes to games on road. But this time they could feel more confident: Their very only away victory comes from Liberec.

Regardless to 68 shots produced by teams altogether, the game was very poor on goals. During whole 60 minutes, the red light was on just once. The only goal came during 14 minutes before end from stick of Tomáš Urban. As it felt into the net of Karlovy Vary, the away team prolongs its dead-road-trip series while adding the 17th away loss in the season.

KOMETA BRNO v. SLAVIA PRAHA 5:2 (0:2, 2:0, 3:0)

This should be an easy one for Kometa. Slavia (14th) have won its last Extraliga game on Nov 16, 2014 and while coming to the ice of the 4th team it was expected to get its 16th consecutive loss.

After all, it happened so. But it was rather hard for Brno to get the three points: After 20 minutes the score was 0-2 for the Praguers, and yet after 40 mins, it was a tie. But finally in the last period, Kometa took it into its hands and scored three times to make it 5-2.

ČSOB POJIŠŤOVNA PARDUBICE v. ŠKODA PLZEŇ 3:4 OT (0:1, 0:2, 3:0 - 0:1)

Since the moment when coach Miloš Říha sr. joined Pardubice (5th), they have won all three games. As of now, the invincibility series is over. But when taking into consideration Plzeň was in a three-goals lead after 27 minutes already and that Pardubice lost yet after overtime, it is a good final result for Říha’s team anyway.

“The Actuaries” were able to score the equalizer only thanks to the sprint from the third period. Home-fans heros of the night became Rostislav Tybor, Lukáš Radilo and Miroslav Špaček. But the biggest starring moment from the overtime was under direction of an Pilsener: At time 64.38 the game was closed by Nicholas Johnson.

SPARTA PRAHA v. VERVA LITVÍNOV 7:1 (2:1, 2:0, 3:0)

Who would guess the game between the third Sparta and the second Litvínov is going to be equal, he would be wrong. Eventhough that before this game the Verva starting goalie Francouz was keeping a 162 minutes long record without a goal, this time he was out of play after the 6th of 7 home team’s goal in the 46th minute.

But the start seemed well for Verva. František Lukeš found a way to open the score yet in the 3rd minute, but it was the only happy moment for Litvínov.
