Manchester Phoenix cease trading.
Two weeks ago I said that Manchester Phoenix of the English Premier Division were in trouble and now they have announced they are to cease operations.
After talks with a new potential investor failed the club need to withdraw from competition immediately as they are unable to complete the remainder of their games due to a budget shortfall.
Owner Neil Morris commented: “I am extremely saddened for the whole of the Phoenix community but this decision has become inevitable.
“I’d like our fans to remember the great things the club has achieved, and the impact we’ve made on British Ice Hockey.”
The club has faced an extremely difficult trading situation this season, as a result of a lack of sponsorship, playing out of Blackpool and the inability to secure a permanent home in Manchester.
They will honour their commitments to paying wages owed and the league are to be offficially informed.
