The Swedish Ice Hockey Association announces that the 2014 IIHF World U20 Championship will be played in Malmö.

The main arena for the 2014 World Juniors will be Malmö Arena, built in 2008 with a capacity of 13 700 spectators. The second venue of the tournament will be the older Malmö Isstadion. Before 2014, the World Juniors will be held in Calgary and Edmonton, Canada in 2012 and in Ufa, Russia in 2013.

Malmö is Sweden's third-largerst city and is very close to Denmark's capital Copenhagen; the two cities are connected by a bridge over the Öresund strait that seperates Sweden and Denmark. The Malmö/Copenhagen region has a population base of 3.6 million.

The 2014 tournament will be the sixth World Junior tournament played in Sweden. It will be the first the time that the World Juniors will be played in a a major Swedish city. On earlier occassions the tournament was allocated to mid-size towns with arenas with a capacity below 10 000.
