Glasgow Clan re-established a three-point cushion at the top of the Elite League table thanks to a win over second-placed Sheffield in a high-scoring game on Sunday afternoon.
For the second night in a row, Glasgow Clan were involved in a five-goal opening period however this time they finished the first 20 minutes ahead. Clan took the lead with a nice finish from Jack Musil from close range at 1:57, and with 7:20 on the board Scott Pitt made it 2-0. Rob Dowd pulled one back for Sheffield 59 seconds later, but by 10:17 Chau Rau found the net on the powerplay to re-establish the home side’s two-goal cushion. Brendan Connolly’s coast-to-coast effort at 17:35 brought the arrears back down to just one after the first period.
Sheffield drew level thanks to a defensive mix-up that saw the Clan bounce one in off their goal goalie at 21:27, but a three-minute spell would put the hosts back firmly in control. Travis Ehrhardt started things with a shot from the slot at 27:45, with Rasmus Bjerrum making it 5-3 at 29:31. Less than a minute later Mikael Lidhammar came into slot home at the back post and give the Clan a three-goal lead.
At 7-3 thanks to Scott Pitt with just over ten minutes to go the Clan looked to have the points in the bag; however, goals from Nikolai Lemtyugov and Lucas Sanström within two minutes of each other brought the visitors back to within two goals with 7:46 left to play. Rasmus Bjerrum found the empty net with 55 seconds remaining to ensure the Clan took the win.
