Game recap

The Sheffield Steelers continued their winning streak at the 2021 Elite Series, coming from two down to beat the Coventry Blaze 6-4 at the Motorpoint Arena.

An excellent opening period for the Blaze saw them lead by two after 20 minutes. In-form Tristan Keck found the net from a bad angle 4:09 into the game, with Luke Ferrara finishing at the far post for 2-0 with 13:43 played - a powerplay goal.

The Steelers, however, owned most of the puck possession in period two and ended it deservedly ahead. Tanner Eberle got them on the board with the man advantage 65 seconds in. and after the Blaze had survived more penalties it was Jonathan Phillips who fired home at 36:08. Sam Jones then put the Steelers ahead 33 seconds later, and it could have been more but for Sheffield having a goal washed out for goal interference - the on-ice call being backed-up by video review.

Mike Hammond's snipe levelled the scores 2:18 into the third, but Sheffield were back ahead at 46:04 when Sondre Olden's shot snuck through Shane Owen. Jason Hewitt made it 5-3 with 7:11 to play which looked to have finished things off, however a 2-on-1 break saw Mike Hammond set up Keck for a fine finish and bring the Blaze back to within one. Coventry put pressure on late with Shane Owen pulled, but the Steelers rode it out and even had time for Brendan Connolly to score on the empty net with one second remaining to confirm the win.
