Game recap

Dundee Stars beat Sheffield for the second consecutive night to to register a four point weekend against the Steelers, who were beaten 2-1 in overtime on Sunday night.

It was a very tight game throughout at the Dundee Ice Arena with the hosts again calling on the services of Brython Preece to start in net - he made 27 saves on the night to earn his team the victory. Rok Stojanovič, who entered the net on Saturday only eight minutes in, continued goaltending duties for the Steelers.

With no goals through 20 minutes, scoring the first was always going to be important - although the Steelers had a goal washed out for being kicked in during the first period. When the deadlock was eventually broken, it came in unusual circumstances. Spencer Dorowicz's point shot hit the side netting and then the back of the goal, causing most of the crowd and Stars players to think the puck had gone in. The officials waived it off and play continued, and as the Steelers broke Brandon Whistle noticed that Preece had left his net and had the simple task of launching the puck into the gaping cage as Preece tried to scramble back.

Dundee deservedly drew level midway through period three. While Rob Dowd sat an interference penalty, Connor Sills' shot was saved by Stojanovič but Dillon Lawrence was on hand to whack at the loose puck and force it through with 10:56 to play.

Both sides had chances to win it in regulation, but Evan Mosey was called for holding 1:23 into overtime setting up the Stars for their fifth powerplay of the night, and as the penalty ran down Kalvis Ozols scored his first Dundee goal with a rocket past Stojanovič to win for the Stars 3:15 into the bonus period.
