Sport Vaasa has won Mestis title in Finland

15 Mar 2012 | Mika Leino

Sport Vaasa has won its 3rd Mestis title in four years.

Sport beat Jokipojat Joensuu for the third time on Wednesday evening in Vaasa by 2-1. Sports goalie Joni Puurula was chosen as the MVP of playoffs.

Despite beating Jokipojat straight 3-0 wins all games were very tight and two of them went to OT. Sport lost only once in the playoffs (against KooKoo in semifinals).

Mestis is the second highest league in Finland and its winner will play against the last team of SM-liiga. Sport and Ilves will start their best-of-seven series on the 23rd of March in Tampere. Sport has played only for one season in SM-liiga and this was already in season 1975-76 (the opening season of the league).
